City of Los Angeles - Zoning Resources

Zoning laws and ordinances are location dependent and change constantly. Some municipality offices are slow in issuing zoning documents while others operate more quickly or have a very traditional manual process as far as zoning is concerned. The City of Los Angeles has adopted internet technology to serve individuals and businesses utilizing the internet. They have created several resources and tools where individuals and businesses can research certain zoning issues themselves.

Zoning Manual

The Zoning Code Manual and Commentary is a great resource and provides a cumulative summary of more than 230 written policies and interpretations made by the Department of Building and Safety, the Department of City Planning, and the Office of the City Attorney pertaining to the interpretation and administration of specific sections of the City of Los Angeles, Planning and Zoning Code. It is available for free download and has a great Q and A style format.
